January/February
If possible, take your now undecorated Christmas tree to a location to be recycled and turned into mulch.
Continue to gently knock a heavy snow off of your delicate shrubs to prevent breakage.
Keep up with your applications of deer and rabbit repellent as the food sources become more scarce.
Since there is not a whole lot of outdoor gardening to do in the winter, why not concentrate on your houseplants?
- Check your plants frequently for pests and treat accordingly. Read our section on House plant pests.
- Use a damp cloth to wipe the dust off of house plants with large, smooth leaves.
- Be cautious when watering, the yellowing of leaves is often caused from over watering the plants.
If you are storing any bulbs for the winter, check them for any signs of rot and remove the damaged ones.
